55. The Simplon Valley, Italy
This is actually a valley of the famous Alps. It is ensconced between the Lepontine and Pennine mountain ranges. These surrounding mountains are unsurprisingly very high. In fact, they are almost 4,000 meters 13, 123+ feet) tall.
The Simplon Valley was once a very successful trade route and it is shared by both Italy and Switzerland. The lower eastern portion belongs to Italy. The upper western portion belongs to Switzerland. Play your cards right when you visit and you can experience the best of both countries.
