Beware the “nightmarish Lovecraftian sea monster” some said. Still, others thought that something was just “fishy.” Was it something carried along on the sea breeze or was it what washed up on the shore of South Carolina’s Folly Beach in March 2012?
Whatever this thing really was, it looked like something that had been dragged through the mists of time from the era of the dinosaurs. A local veterinarian determined that the corpse in question was a scute-covered sturgeon. Sturgeons weigh up to 800 pounds and grow to be up to 15 feet in length.
