8Montauk Monster
One cannot compile a complete list of creatures washed ashore without including the famous Montauk Monster. In July of 2008, the internet exploded with numerous reports of a dead “ferocious-looking carcass” discovered in eastern Long Island, New York. While it was indeed DOA by the time it had washed up on the well-known Ditch Plains Beach, it lives on even today in the annals of pop culture. In fact, it was immortalized in a memorable albeit disturbing painting by American artist and New York native Dan Lacey.
