No, not Oprah but “Opah.” While they may both often appear to be quite big, the beached beauty in the picture never had a TV talk show. Although this big beached beauty with the somewhat satanic look hails from somewhere not at all that hellish. These creatures are known by many monikers including Kingfish, Moonfish, and even Sunfish.
The truth is that these deep sea dwellers are only rarely seen when experienced anglers and even biologists are actually looking for them. So it was no surprise when one October morning in 2010 someone panicked when they discovered one of these massive fish off the coast of San Diego. Local surfer Scott Williams admitted: [It] “looked like it was from another planet.” The Opah was reported to be about the size of a manhole and weighed 100 pounds.
