Papenoo Beach, French Polynesia

“Let’s go surfin’ now . . .”  Yes, if you’re into surfing this is the black beach for you.  Situated in a remote spot on the northern coast of Tahiti, it features some of the best waves on the planet.

The shoreline is less crowded during the week.  If you’re into hiking, visit the adjacent Papenoo Valley.  Explore the beauty of the island.  See its green valleys and mountains and don’t miss the Puraha, Topatari, and Vaiharuru Falls.

Reynisfjara, Iceland

Ensconced beside a fishing village named Vík í Mýrdal on Iceland’s southern coast.  Reynisfjara is Iceland’s most memorable black beaches.  Watch the great Atlantic waves as they crash onto the jagged, basalt rock formations along the shore.

The rocks are called Reynisdrangar.  With the high cliffs of famous Mount Reynisfjall as a backdrop, they are a sight to see.  In fact, fans of the popular “Game of Thrones” show might recognize this rather dramatic setting as season seven’s Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.
