The name “Huashan” is Mandarin for “magnificent mountain.” Huashan is a massive mountain situated close to the well-known city of Huayin located in Shaanxi province, 120 kilometers from Xi’an.

This mountain is made up of mainly Mesozoic-era granite that was thrust upwards due to geological faulting over many millions of years. It includes five individual peaks. The highest is South Peak which is 2.155 meters tall. Taoists consider it to be one of the country’s most sacred mountains. The oldest temple there harkens back to the second century B.C.
