14The Door Hell (Darvaza Crater)

The flaming crater is locally referred to as “the door to hell”, and was discovered by geologists as a cave filled with natural gas. To avoid harmful consequences on life in and around the region, the gases were burned. While people expected the fire to be doused in a few days, it is still burning, almost after a century later. This unusual and intriguing natural process has curious tourists thronging here to learn more about the place.
