The Vatican Museums witnesses a huge increase in its numbers, with 6.2 million visitors in 2014. A fascinating complex of art galleries and ancient paraphernalia, these museums feature everything from Roman sculptures to Egyptian artifacts to medieval era tapestries to present day religious and cultural art. There are more than 50 galleries, the final one being the ethereal looking Sistine Chapel, featuring ornate ceilings paintings by none other than Michelangelo.
