88. Cross The Bridge Of Sighs
The famous Bridge of Sighs is small and yet it is one of the most popular and historic landmarks in Venice. This iconic bridge crosses over the well-known Rio di Palazzo. It connects Doge’s Palace to the Prigioni Nuove.
The bridge was once utilized to move prisoners from the courtroom to prison. It is named after the sad sighs that prisoners would let out as they took their final look at the outside world out the bridge’s windows. Locals say if lovers kiss on a gondola under the bridge they will receive “eternal bliss.”
