22. The Forbidden City, Beijing
Also known as the Imperial Palace, this is the biggest building in China. Construction began between 1271 and 1368 during the Yuan Dynasty. Much of what you’ll see today wasn’t built until some time between 1406 and 1420. The complex covers an area of 720,000 square meters. It’s secured by a moat, watchtowers, and a 10-meter-high wall.
