10. Avoid major holidays
Don’t travel on major holidays. Major holidays in Europe include both Christmas and Easter. Mind you, certain countries have their own national holidays that could impact on your access to attractions as well. Again, do your homework and research all the major holidays for each individual country you intend to visit prior to finalizing your travel plans in order to avoid any holiday closures. Finally, some countries have celebrations that last for days such as Oktoberfest or Christmas Markets which can create a sudden increase in the number of tourists.
9. Avoid stereotypical tourist activities
Stereotypical tourist activities, like gondola rides in Venice, are actually expensive. The target market is tourists who will pay whatever it costs. There are less expensive alternatives available to you. A water taxi in Venice, for example, is significantly cheaper than a gondola ride. If, however, there is an activity that you cannot go home without seeing or trying, then plan for it by cutting back on the rest of your expenses for that day. Rather than eat lunch at a restaurant that day buy it from a grocery store. Click On the Next > Button to See Next.
