8. Find free museums

Many museums in Europe are always free. Others are free after a certain time or on certain days of the week. For example, the National Gallery in London and the British Museum are always free. Even if an attraction does not have any free days, they very well could have a half-price day or time. Go to a museum or attraction’s website to check the prices in advance to help you work out your itinerary. Lastly, no matter how savvy you think you are, do not purchase tickets from a scalper.

7. Use self-guided tours

Guided tours can be expensive and follow a predetermined path. Touring on your own allows you to personalize things. If you feel unable to do that you can still save money with an audio guide which will often provide you with the same information without the tired jokes. You can also choose to download various guides onto your smartphone. They are available via travel websites and even from the attractions themselves. In fact, you can get audio museum guides for numerous European museums from Rick Steves’ website. Click On the Next > Button to See Next.
