12. The Moss Swamp, Romania

The nation of Romania has several majestic mountains and forests. The Cozia Forest is famous for both its fauna and flora. There’s also the Nera Springs Forest which is one of the last remaining virgin forests in Europe. Nevertheless, the mysterious moss swamp is a stand-alone experience. It is actually a swamp forest that even seasoned travelers say is not always easy to find. So if you are a true lover of nature, you will probably have to seek out a guide or at the very least some general directions before you set out on your adventure. This is an eerie, natural wonder with century-old plantlife and trees that are largely untouched by humankind.

11. The Otzarreta Forest, Spain

Situated in the Basque country’s well-known Gorbea National Park, this small forest includes fresh, running brooks, about 100 ancient, mossy trees and other, assorted natural moss-covered surfaces. Before you enter though have your camera ready once the atmosphere becomes a bit foggy as this part of the popular national park becomes not only photogenic but positively ghostly to boot.
