19The Sunset Crater Volcano And Wupatki National Monuments

While in the Flagstaff area, consider these two outstanding places too. The popular Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument focuses on a single cinder cone dormant volcano that erupted less than 1,000 years ago. Hike the easy, scenic Lava Flow Trail right through the Bonito Lava Flow.

There’s a loop road that connects the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument to the neighboring Wupatki National Monument. It was the largest, highest, and most influential pueblo less than 800 years ago. There’s no shade, so visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

  1. been to all but 2 .. most ive been to 3 to 80+ times..i was a tour director that took small groups on 2 week to 9 week camping trips usa, canada, alaska,mexico ..i did it for 16yrs..
