22The Lower Salt River And Wild Horses

The calm Lower Salt River winds through the Tonto National Forest. Explore this scenic desert oasis of cacti-dotted scarlet cliffs via boat. While the entire Salt River is 200 miles in length, the Lower Salt River is the best for both kayaking and casual river trips.  

The big draw here though is the wild mustangs. The little herds come to the river to drink. You might even be lucky enough to see them cross the river.

  1. been to all but 2 .. most ive been to 3 to 80+ times..i was a tour director that took small groups on 2 week to 9 week camping trips usa, canada, alaska,mexico ..i did it for 16yrs..
