21. Crater Lake, Oregon, USA
Crater Lake is a caldera basin that was the result of a collapsing volcano that was later filled by snowmelt and rain. Today it is officially known as America’s deepest lake. It reaches a maximum depth of 1,963 feet. The lake is often shrouded by fog which only makes it more beautiful when the fog clears.
22. The Mayan Ruins, Mexico
While Mexico’s Caribbean coast includes a number of Mayan archaeological sites, perhaps the most fascinating are those found in Tulum. This walled city from the 1200s is perched on a blunt bluff overlooking the ocean. It certainly presents a dramatic image posed against the turquoise water and pale-sand beaches.
