5Strasbourg, France
Just a two-hour train ride from Paris, Strasbourg is the perfect place to take in the beauty of the friendly Alsace region. Situated near the German border, Strasbourg is also an official UNESCO World Heritage site. Both its culture and architecture are an attractive blend of both French and German.
Strasbourg is famous for the sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its astronomical clock, and for its well-known medieval cityscape consisting mainly of buildings framed in Rhineland black and white timber. There is also the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain. Other cultural attractions include the Opéra national du Rhin, The Théâtre national de Strasbourg, and (if you visit at the right time) you can attend the annual Spectre Film Festival which is dedicated to horror, sci-fi and fantasy films.
