5Vis Island, Croatia
While it is Dubrovnik that runs away with all accolades on Croatia, Vis Island is an equally fantastic and unusual experience. It is the farthest island from the heart of the Dalmatian Coast. Vis also served as an erstwhile base of the Yugoslav Army, and was shut for international visitors until 1989.
Currently, it is known for its idyllic Adriatic location that can be easily accessed through a high speed ferry from Split. Escape to one of its several gorgeous, isolated bays or head out to discover the region’s verdant vineyards. Also, you’ll get delicious local seafood and a nice variety if local wines. Enjoy snorkeling in the midst of cute dolphins and turtles.
