2Denver Botanic Gardens, Colorado
This Denver-based public botanical garden located on North York Street is under 24 acres in size but is still impressive. Highlights here include the outdoor conservatory, a sunken amphitheater, and several theme gardens. You will also discover other interest-generating exhibits such as the Orchid Showcase.
This place is perhaps best known for its yearly concert series and the popular Spring Fall plant sales. As this goes to press, some of the noteworthy upcoming special events include the exciting Art Exhibition, fun Evenings al Fresco, and the lovely Lavender Festival.

I lived in Portland, OR for 46 years and I have been to the Japanese Garden many times. It is the largest & most authentic one outside of Japan. The other thing about Portland is it’s distinction as the Rose City, we have a huge Rose Festival in early June with Princesses chosen from each local high school, a tradition over 100 years old. The roses we celebrate are from the International Rose Test Gardens, adjacent to the Japanese Garden. It makes for a serene afternoon as it is all adjacent to one of our most beautiful parks–Washington Park. High in the west hills, the views of the city and beyond are breathtaking. On a clear day you can much of the Cascades Range, Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, Mt Jefferson & sometimes a peak at the 3 Sisters, stunning! And if the kids are bored, the Oregon Zoo is also next door, the elephants are famous as is their habitat.
