9Missouri Botanical Garden, Missouri
Next time you visit the St. Louis area, be sure to set aside some time to take in the Missouri Botanical Garden. This is another place where you can attend special events. For example, the garden plays host to a number of different yearly cultural festivals, such as the Japanese Festival, and Chinese Cultural Day.
Additionally, several Asian festivals are held here in this garden. Of course, travelers to this place on Shaw Boulevard can also appreciate such areas as the Blanke Boxwood Garden, the Children’s Garden, the English Woodland Garden, the stunning Strassenfest German Garden, and the geodesic dome greenhouse called the Climatron.

I lived in Portland, OR for 46 years and I have been to the Japanese Garden many times. It is the largest & most authentic one outside of Japan. The other thing about Portland is it’s distinction as the Rose City, we have a huge Rose Festival in early June with Princesses chosen from each local high school, a tradition over 100 years old. The roses we celebrate are from the International Rose Test Gardens, adjacent to the Japanese Garden. It makes for a serene afternoon as it is all adjacent to one of our most beautiful parks–Washington Park. High in the west hills, the views of the city and beyond are breathtaking. On a clear day you can much of the Cascades Range, Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, Mt Jefferson & sometimes a peak at the 3 Sisters, stunning! And if the kids are bored, the Oregon Zoo is also next door, the elephants are famous as is their habitat.
