Duluth is found in the northern part of the state on the shores of well-known Lake Superior. There’s a surprising variety of both indoor and outdoor activities here and thus it is one of the country’s most underrated winter destinations. For example, there’s the annual Bentleyville “Tour of Lights”, which is the biggest, free seasonal light festival in the nation.

Spirit Mountain is great for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and snow tubing too. Indoor activities include a weekend tour of the local assorted eateries. Veteran visitors recommend the Zeitgeist. It’s a nice diner complete with a boutique movie theater that focuses on indie films. There’s also the Rathskeller cocktail bar, situated in the old city hall building.
