This national park is almost 215 miles out of L.A. Spanning more than 5,000 square miles, it’s the largest in the contiguous United States and includes a number of different landscapes. It’s also one of the hottest places on the planet.
Since it can be as hot as 120 degrees Fahrenheit here in the summer, why wouldn’t you visit in the winter? During the winter months, the weather is more agreeable and sightseeing and hiking the more than 30 hiking trails here is much more comfortable. The best time to visit is between November and March. Highlights include Badwater Basin, the Artist’s Palette, and Zabriskie Point.
