Also known as the Gothic Quarter, this place is actually Barcelona’s oldest area. Situated next to the popular city center, it is also Barcelona’s liveliest area. Because of this proximity, travelers will discover Medieval and Roman-era architecture and narrow roads next to trendy bars and nightclubs, alfresco cafes, and hip shops and restaurants.
Visit Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça de la Catedral, the palm tree-lined Plaça Reial and explore Plaça Sant Felip Neri, which was actually bombed by the infamous Spanish dictator Francisco Franco during the Spanish Civil War.
