9Süleymaniye Mosque
Ensconced in the historic Faith district of Istanbul, close to the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul University, and Golden Horn is the well-known Süleymaniye Mosque. Constructed between 1550 and 1557, this impressive Ottoman mosque was commissioned by Süleyman I. It’s highlighted by a large dome, numerous gardens, painted corbels, ceramic tiles, mother-of-pearl window shutters, and stained-glass windows.
Veteran visitors say it’s just as memorable as the above-mentioned Blue Mosque. Just like other places of worship here, the Süleymaniye Mosque conducts several six prayer services each day. Travelers are advised to dress in a conservative manner.
Istanbul formerly known as Constantinople, is the largest city in Turkey, serving as the country’s economic, cultural and historic hub.
