Rocky Mountain National Park, under two hours out of Denver, spans an area of 415 square miles. A family-friendly road trip leads you to the very top of the planet since the peaks here are more than 12,000 feet high. Take a drive on Trail Ridge Road to “the land above the trees” where you will find the alpine tundra.
Other recommended activities in this park include ranger-led programs, family-friendly hikes, and wildlife watching. (There are more than 800 herds of elk here!) Set up base camp in either of the gateway towns: Grand Lake or Estes Park. Either one is a great spot to begin your national park adventure.
