Due in part to the recent world health crisis, the ability to get up and go anywhere has become even more important to people who enjoy world travel. People have been giving even more thought to all the places that real people have always wanted to see–be it a city, a state, a country, or a continent–but have still not visited. Some of these places represent the most popular, iconic travel destinations, a few are more representative of the increased desire to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a couple represent the idea of getting to know one’s neighbors. Thus, in no particular order, we present 21 bucket list travel destinations to visit this year.

1.  Canada

If you live in the USA and have yet to visit our neighbors to the North, you surely should. After all, Niagara Falls still remains a bucket list attraction, and some say you can see all of it best from the Canadian side. Additionally, there are 13 provinces to visit, and each one is distinctive. Whether you are interested in the beautiful scenery, culture, the Northern Lights, or even polar bears, Canada has something for everyone into world travel.

2.  Mexico

It’s always a good idea to know something about your neighbors. If you live in the USA, this is but one reason to visit Mexico. If you live elsewhere, there are other reasons, of course!  

Mexico is chock full o’ history. It also features some spectacular beaches and a great place to shop for some unique souvenirs and even get great buys on things you could buy for more elsewhere. There’s also the culture, and, of course, the food. What better place to dine on Mexican food than in Mexico itself?

3.  Italy

Experts say Italy is one of the world’s best-known nations for tourism. This country is perhaps Europe’s most diverse. It truly has a lot to offer those who enjoy world travel.

Check out the ancient Roman ruins such as the iconic Colosseum, the charming coastal cities such as Cinque Terre, the numerous vineyards, the culture, the famous shopping spots, and such traditional attractions such as Trevi Fountain (where you really should be sure to drop a coin.)

4.  Egypt

Many people want to go to Egypt to see the famous Pyramids of Giza, but there are other ancient artifacts to see there too. This may be the best time to visit Egypt since the much-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum will be opening in Giza. Once completed, it will be the second-largest museum and the largest one dedicated to only one civilization. It will span an area of approximately five million square feet.

5.  Greece

You can see Greece and Italy on the same trip Of course, there is always a lot to see here anyway. You can explore the historic city of Athens, see the numerous ancient sites, and spend time on the beautiful beaches here as well.

6.  France

If you took French in high school or even college, you might have a strong urge to visit “the City of Lights.” Even if you didn’t, this country is a popular bucket-list destination. See such popular places as the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy a bite at a charming outdoor bistro in Paris. Sample a glass or three of wonderful wine at one of the award-winning countryside vineyards too.

7.  Ireland

Ireland, located in the British Isles, is a must-see. Although you don’t read much about it, Ireland has some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Even if you have little interest in beaches though there is much to see on the famous Emerald Isle. Whether you’re into friendly locals, mysterious olden castles, the memorable natural beauty of the country’s coasts, or other sites such as Newgrange, this country is a magical, majestic location.  

8.  Germany

Germany, the second-most populous in Europe, is famous for sausages, beer, diverse cultural experiences, and such famous festivals as Oktoberfest. There are also majestic, medieval castles, Christmas Markets and sprawling, charming countrysides, and more. Be sure to see the Berlin Wall remains, Berchtesgaden National Park, The Würzburg Residence, Cologne Cathedral, Cologne, Museum Island, and Sylt too. 

9.  Japan

The summer Olympic Games in Tokyo have drawn even more attention to Japan. Veteran visitors can confirm there are many different places to visit there. Book a room at the well-known ANA InterContinental Tokyo, which is regularly praised for its marvelous, Michelin-starred eatery run by French chef Pierre Gagnaire. Have drinks at the Park Hyatt Tokyo’s New York Bar. Visit the new Super Mario World at Universal Studios Japan, Tokyo DisneySea, and Tokyo Disneyland as well.

10.  New Zealand

Fans of author J. R. R. Tolkien agree that regardless of what little they might know about this place, if it’s good enough for hobbits, it’s good enough for them. Journalist Rudyard Kipling called New Zealand the “eighth wonder of the world.” Travel writers have said this is “where the mountains meet the sea” and some compare it to heaven. Be sure to explore Milford Sound. Watch the waterfalls drop down the mighty mountains too.

11.  Australia

The sovereign nation of Australia includes the continent’s mainland, the popular island of Tasmania, and numerous other islands. Sure, it is perhaps most famous for koala bears and kangaroos, but there is a lot more to see and do here “down under.” Some popular attractions include Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, the Sydney Opera House, and the Museum of Underwater Art. If you’re a big fan of natural light displays, don’t forget the Southern Lights either.

12.  Spain

Most people want to go to Spain though for the adventure and fun. They want to attend a Spanish Fiesta, enjoy parades, and outdoor parties complete with fireworks and real Spanish food. Highlights here include Alhambra, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, L’Oceanografic, Retiro Park, and the Royal Palace of Madrid. 

13.  The United Kingdom

You really need multiple visits to explore the Highlands of Scotland, to the allure of England, and the wilds of Wales, and Northern Ireland. Popular tourist stops include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the Tower of London, Stonehenge, St. Abb’s Head, Big Ben, the Callanish Stones, and the Giant’s Causeway.   

14.  Mumbai, India

Mumbai is India’s largest city.  It is well-known as the official financial capital of India and the commercial epicenter. Furthermore, this is the heart of the Bollywood film industry.  One must also note the country’s architecture, food, and history. While you are there though, why stick to just Mumbai? India is also home to such other worthy attractions as the historic Agra Fort, Akbar’s Tomb, Keetham Lake, and naturally the world-famous Taj Mahal.

How many people have always wanted to go on a real African Safari? How many of you have wanted to go in search of elephants, giraffes, hippos, hyenas, leopards, lions, and zebras?
