Lake Tahoe, which straddles the border between Nevada and California, is a great place to be in the summer or the winter. It’s famous for both its ski resorts and its beautiful beaches. Active ladies may enjoy snowboarding, snowmobiling, and skiing. Lake Tahoe also offers both a thriving nightlife and a bit of peace and quiet depending on where you stay.

The California side is less about alcohol-fueled parties at such spots as Zephyr Cove, and more about outdoor activities and communing with nature. You can take a cruise on Emerald Bay, go mountain biking, or even zip-lining. Some travel bloggers suggest staying at the lovely lakeside Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe. Each room includes its own fireplace and a private terrace too.
