The Great Gallery Hike is a challenging one. It is a 7.2-mile out-and-back hike with an elevation of 660 feet. It reportedly provides hikers with a unique experience smack dab in the middle of (what seems to be) nowhere. This hike along a sandy trail includes a steep descent and will slowly lead you to a huge rock wall, the Great Gallery, where you will see some amazingly well-preserved ancient art. Indeed, a few of the figures are actually life-sized!
The Best Hikes in Island in the Sky
Island in the Sky is named thus for its sheer, striking sandstone cliffs situated 1,000 feet above the distinctive desert. If you’re not feeling athletic, you can take the scenic drive. Most of the overlooks are situated atop the mesa.
