After the airport opened in 2015, authorities learned that the wind shears created too much turbulence to land planes there. Ocean winds hit the cliffs upon which the airport is located. It was now the “world’s most useless airport.” Today only specially-trained pilots can land there and flights to the isle famous for whale sharks and trails are still rather rough.
