19. Rocamadour, France
The buildings here in Rocamadour, seem to be hanging onto the large limestone cliff that towers 457 meters above the stunning Alzou River canyon. There are old stone gateways at the foot of this little village where pilgrims and visitors begin their ascent up the 216-step Grand Staircase to a small square. This town is the home of the Sanctuary of the Black Virgin.
20. Vieste, Italy
Vieste is nestled in Puglia. Indeed, Vieste is but one of the scenic settlements on the gorgeous Gargano Peninsula. It was built right on a limestone cliff that overlooks the Adriatic Sea. It is highlighted by an interesting medieval old town complete with whitewashed houses and little lanes. This clifftop town is bordered by some of the area’s most beautiful beaches too.
