21. Castellfollit de la Roca, Spain
Castellfollit de la Roca rests upon a basalt crag over the river Fluvià. It is a medieval network of small squares and cobblestone streets in the often-ignored La Garrotxa area of Catalonia. One of its biggest attractions is the 13th-century church of Sant Salvador. The view from here is incredible. Its wild, volcanic landscape also makes it a fun place to go hiking.
22. Petrovac, Montenegro
Flanked by pine trees and olive groves, this clifftop town by the sea is best known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear water. Visit the Venetian citadel, the Castello Fortress, set on a cliff at the promenade’s northern end. Originally erected in the 1500s to ward off numerous pirates, today it provides visitors with stunning views across the sparkling bay.
