Fira is the capital of the Greek isle of Santorini. This chi-chi town is fairly famous for its blue-domed churches and pristine whitewashed homes that seemingly tumble down the cliffs circling the blue water of the volcanic crater. Stay in one of the hotels carved into the rock. Stroll along the clifftop footpath to neighboring Oia and see the sunset over the Aegean.
16. Jezzine, Lebanon
Also called “the City of Falls”, Jezzine is nicknamed after the waterfalls which drop down the cliff into the valley below. This town sits atop a huge rough outcropping 40 meters above the well-known Wadi Jezzine. Highlights of this place include historic churches and manses, a bustling bazaar, and a noteworthy rest stop for hikers along the popular Lebanon Mountain Trail.
