17.  Leh, India

Leh is the capital of Ladakh. It is also one of the world’s “highest permanently inhabited towns.” Leh’s Old Town is crowned by a royal palace and overlooked by a steep rugged ridge. The palace was constructed during the 1500s. It is nine stories tall and its roof provides visitors with noteworthy views of the local buildings, the snow-sprinkled Himalayas, and more.

18.  Cuenca, Spain

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Cuenca is in Castile La Mancha. The Moors built this place in the 1100s. It is found high over the great gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers. Every year thousands of travelers come to this place to check out the Casas Colgadas, or Hanging Houses, precariously positioned over the cliffs here.
