Ljubljana
Slovenia’s capital is another under-the-radar location. Less than an hour out of town is the country’s biggest attraction–the fairytale-like Lake Bled. Take a wooden “pletna” boat to “Bled Island.” Climb up the 99 stone steps to the Assumption of Mary Church and enjoy the history and the view.
Whitstable
Take a train ride out of London to the seaside town of Whitstable. Stroll past the fisherman’s huts. Dine at Wheelers Oyster Bar. Veteran visitors suggest either the oysters or lobster. Call ahead for reservations and remember this little eaterie is a bring-your-own-booze bistro.
