Yes, hiking to the very top of a genuine active volcano is an exceptional experience. So is boating into one. Here on this isle in the South Shetland Islands, you can do both.

Don’t fret though as this volcano has not actually erupted since 1992. It has a convenient horseshoe-shaped caldera, and boats can sail up to the smoldering beaches there. Cruise around the memorable volcanic bay and take in the view of the ash and snow that cover the various lava formations in the middle of the steam.
