2Phanom Rung

Lying on extinct volcanic remains, Phanom Rung is a scared Hindu shrine complex known for its striking architecture. Nestled in close proximity to the Nang Rong village, this erstwhile temple complex daties back to the Khmer legacy between 10 th to 13 th centuries. An ode to lord Shiva (a revered Hindu god), Phanom Rung was built as a replica of Mount Kailash (abode of Lord Shiva). Fascinating to note that only four times in a year, the sun shine covers all 15 doorways within the sanctuary, when natives celebrate the popular Phanom Rung Festivals (around April). Ther festival features several ancient ceremonies and myriad light and sound displays.
