12Sidon, Lebanon

Sidon’s earliest inhabitants made their way here in as early as 4,000 BC. One has to travel 25 miles to the south of Beirut to reach Sidon, which remains one of the most prominent Phonenician civilization hotspots. It was the hub of the Mediterranean-phonenician cultures, where Jesus is also said to have visited. The city was captured by Alexander the Great in 333 BC. Tourists often visit Sidon to catch a glimpse of the ancient Phoenecian temples and other relics of this little-known civilization.
