The earliest inhabitants to Aribil descended upon the city in as far back as 2,300 BC. Arbil is located to Kirkuk’s north, and was governed throughout history by the Assyrians, Arabs and Persians. It is one of the Silk Route’s most significant stops. Arbil’s erstwhile citadel elevates 26 meters above the ground, and completely stands out in the city’s skyline.
