Francis Bannerman, a Scottish migrant to New York accomplished great success here by selling army surplus products. Post a significant purchase after the Spanish- American Civil War, the entrepreneur was left to find a bigger place to expand his business. Fortunately, he found a place Hudson River, called Pollepel Island. Bannerman built a traditional Scottish castle. The place went through tumultuous times all through the century. It witnessed everything from gunpowder explosion to fire, though it has still managed to retain its beauty!
