6Power Plant IM, Charleroi, Belgium
Erected in 1921, this was one of the nation’s largest and most significant power plants, with the ability to cool 480,000. However, evolved and advanced technology also invites pollution. Power Plant IM became responsible for around 10 percent of the total carbon emissions in Belgium. Global environment watchdog organization Greenpeace took to protesting against the plan, which led to the shutting down of the site in 2007. Though the plant isn’t a source of power or electricity, it does offer some splendidly strange and mystical vistas.
