This historic world heritage site spans across 326 acres. It currently features over 50,000 different types of plants from around the world. Designed by Princess Augusta in 1759. Additional greenhouses were added in the 1800s. Today you can enjoy the greenhouses, art galleries and other unique structures there.
See the palm house and its tropical rainforest plants and the Princess Wales conservatory which includes 10 separate computer-controlled climate zones. Take in the carnivorous plants, desert plants, and orchids and don’t miss the 59-foot high treetop walkway either.
Butchart Gardens British Columbia, Canada
This national historic site and world-famous garden are situated in Brentwood Bay. It includes ponds, exotic plants, and theme gardens. It stretches across almost 55 acres and features 700 different varieties of plants. It was once a family-owned quarry.
When the quarry went out of business in 1909, the owners decided to turn it into a garden. It took Robert and Jennie Butchart 12 years to design and opened in 1921. It’s a home to peacocks, parrots, butterflies, and ducks. They have light shows, fireworks displays, and musical nights too.
