9Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Mesa Verde National Park is the place to be if you want a really close-up view of the nation’s most incredible cliff dwellings. Some of these precariously perched structures are over 700 years old and were literally carved out of the canyon wall. Take a tour of the Balcony House or the White Cliff Palace.

Need more? You can visit 5000 protected ancient archaeological sites here too. Mesa Verde itself is located on a high plateau in the state’s southwestern corner. Visit it on a day trip out of Cortez or Durango.

  1. Hi!
I’m not surprised! It has made more than one “top” or “best of” list. I have personally written about it a few times.

  2. Hi!
I might agree but having hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim with my dad and a small group of other scouts, I have a special place for the Grand Canyon National Park myself. But, yes, Bryce is beautiful and makes many different lists, for sure!
