Again Machu Picchu slots in as a destination that belongs on everyone’s bucket list. This lost city of the Incas, undiscovered by the conquistadores, still remains the stuff of legend. It was discovered by famous American archaeologist Hiram Bingham and was reported in 1911. To this day many of these stunning stone structures remain intact. It dates back to the 1400s, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and remains one of Peru’s most visited tourist attractions.
