3. Ride the Trans-Siberian Railway

Take the longest train trip in the world! This 5,771-mile route requires at least a week and extends into seven different time zones. You board the train in Moscow, Russia and ride the rails until you reach the well-known port city of Vladivostok very close to the border of China. The trip will take you through the Russian countryside, where you’ll see magnificent mountains and the largest freshwater lake on Earth. You can buy a direct train ticket or one that permits you to make random stops so that you can explore various cities along the way.

2. See the Galapagos Islands

The famous Charles Darwin was inspired to formulate his theories of natural selection and evolution while visiting these remote yet popular islands about 620 miles off Ecuador’s coast. These volcanic isles can be accessed by a cruise ship. While on your cruise keep a lookout for such local wildlife as Blue-footed Boobies, Darwin’s Finches, the famous Galapagos Land Iguana, and Sally Lightfoot Crabs.
